Key West fishing reports for February talks about January fishing on the weather that January turned into, followed into the first week of February to be truly cold and somewhat crappy. We had some of the coldest cold friends move through that we’ve had in a very long time almost dating back to 2010 when Key West set the record at 42° air temp. Take a look at the Key West fishing reports forecast to see the major warming trend. We are seeing in our long range forecast.
Key West Fishing Reports
The last week in January provided a couple of really great days of fishing for us on board the INXS sailfish, tuna, kings, barracudas and Bonita on one particular trip that really knocked it out of the park for our people. But that’s how it’s been some days we hit it just right and it goes nuts and some days. It gets really tough and we’re praying to the gods for a bite. But that’s the truth in Key West Fishing reports sometimes the fish just aren’t there and other times they’re everywhere. These last few weeks have been just that.
There have been some nice Sailfish moving through the area when we are able to get out. This Last week we had a couple of pretty big fronts move through key West with lots of wind and certainly cooler temperatures. Our air temps drop down to the high 40s for one night and then stuck around the high 50s for several days really bringing a chill to our local waters and the Gulfstream was quite a bit offshore, allowing our air temps and water temps to chill. This certainly had an effect on our fishing for some of the days, and of course, with a higher winds and big seas will let many of our clients out of their obligation to Fish with us and refunded their deposits. We have no desire to have to pass out barf bags. Folks were able to do something else or just not go through the misery of 6 to 8 foot seas with minimal bite.
Since the last set of high winds, we’ve had the Fishing has been OK for rod, bending with king Fish and Bonito with a mix of cero mackerel and barracuda’s sadly we don’t have a lot of great sport fish to report. We are hoping all that’s going to change this week.
Look for an update to this Key West fishing report come Friday February 14th.

Fishing Forecast
Looking at the LRF (Long Range Forecast) it appears that the polar vortex is going to release its chilly death grip on the lower Florida Keys. So it will be back to flip-flop season for us here in Key West and with warmer weather in February. I am hearing about temperatures in the 80s by the end of the week. I think these next couple of weeks are gonna produce some pretty awesome deep sea fishing here out of Key West.
We are super excited about the possibilities of mahi tuna wahoo, and Sailfish filling up our next Key West fishing reports.
Winter Fishing Trip Booking Pro Tips
Things to look for when you’re booking a deep sea fishing trip and watching the LRF. First off – light southeast winds. Those winds not only help stack up our weed lines, but they also bring in the mahi bite right here in the middle of winter. Easterly wins are great for the Sailfish and tunas as well as Northeast winds which will keep the Sail bite and enhance the blackfin tuna bite. Generally all the winds are very good for the king fishing this time of year, especially since we’ve had a cold winter.
