Mid August Fishing Report Key West

mid August fishing report

Mid August fishing report for Key West deep sea fishing. The weather has really improved as the summer goes into one of its hottest months. The winds are out of the East these last few days and the thunderstorms have been few and short. August has shown us a good bit of business taking folks out deep sea fishing Garrett and I have been busy on the INXS.

Usually this time of the year we are busting ass to get offshore to the really deep water way south of Key West to catch some 20 – 24″ Mahi mahi in larger numbers. Looking for long weed lines or items floating that will hold schools of mahi.. Not these last few trips. So hard to break the tradition of heading offshore really far to catch mahi for our people. Early last week we had gone out there, not seen any grass or fish for that matter, we even found some nice large floating targets that were void of fish. Then come back in shallow to hit some nice fish in some pretty random spots. So, after that we adjusted our attitudes and never left 300ft of water these last few trips but really ran a good ways down the reef to catch some nice 10-13lb mahi (dolphin), garner some sailfish activity and jump a white marlin. It was helpful to live by the saying “dont run over fish to find fish.

Some good size mahi have been Caught

We are fishing more this week coming up starting tomorrow but things are starting to slow down with bookings as everyone is raising a weary eye toward the tropics as things heat up there.. Looks like we may have a 50/50 chance at a major storm event around the 26th of August according to some of the computer weather models long range forecasts. This keeps things  easy for last minute bookings for some great deep sea fishing on our 47 Ft Viking INXS. I will update here in this report to let folks know what we see. We certainly don’t want folks to come to Key West if there is a chance of a hurricane.

Booking a deep sea fishing charter on the INXS is very easy. The only way to secure a trip with us is by calling us direct. We do not use any fishing booking web sites that charge a huge commission and frequently over book boats leaving folks at the dock. Plus we like to stay in touch with our clients direct to make sure we can offer what they are looking for in favorable conditions and be there for them in person when they call.
