Fall Is Good For Deep Sea Fishing Key West
The crew and support team of the INXS has been on vacation since middle of September. Now we are all back in the shop getting ready for the fall / winter line up for Key West deep sea fishing. This includes a pretty substantial punch list of mostly rods, reels and tackle maintenance. Its a habit every year to replace all the lines and grease the rollers on the rods. Lube the reels, change the out rigger halyards and make sure everything is switched over to winter time fishing tactics for Key West which will include trolling not only the deeper waters but also the reefs. Kite fishing and reef fishing.
We just love deep sea fishing this time of the year here in Key West for a few reasons. First off every day is different its always a surprise to know who will be hitting. As the cold fronts start to work their way further South we get changes in not only temperature but wind directions. This affects the fishing immensely, all in good ways. There is always a targeted species to fish for and as the winds clock around from front to front, so do our tactics. This makes our job and our fishing way more fun. We also do not have to run so far to catch fish which opens up our 4 hour fishing charter to those that want one. Because of the speed we have in our boat the INXS still gets to the fish and you will have a great chance to catch all our favorite sport fish on a 4 hour trip.

Sailfish, tunas, wahoo, dolphin, kingfish, cero mackerel, grouper and snapper will be eyeballing the copious amounts of ballyhoo cover the surface as the summer heads way to the winter cycle. They are easy prey and keep the fish on super feed right through winter. A fabulous time for deep sea fishing Key West.
Why Is It So Good Closer To The Reef?
As the bait starts to show up on the reef, so do the predators. Sailfish, tunas, wahoo, dolphin, kingfish, cero mackerel, grouper and snapper will be eyeballing the copious amounts of ballyhoo (our baitfish) cover the surface as the summer heads way to the winter cycle. They are easy prey and keep the fish on super feed right through winter. A fabulous time for deep sea fishing Key West. What can usually be a deeper water palegic species such as sailfish, they will come right up to 18ft of water to grab a snack.
Wahoo are The Rock Stars of Fall Deep Sea Fishing
If ever the chances of catching a great fish like a large wahoo off Key West were good it would be October – March. Yes, we catch them year round but our best fishing for them is during the extreme moon phases of those months. Here on the INXS our 47ft Viking Convertible we troll for them using our Cannon digital down riggers and on our 36 Ft Yellowfin Center Console that we use as our Key West reef fishing boat we will use live bait. I really like the one to three days before and after the moon event and sometime one to two days after the full moon.
Other Deep Sea Fishing Surprises
It’s all good! I really hate to use old Cliche’s but fishing this time of the year is a lot like a box of chocolates.. You never know what you’re gonna fish for one day to the next. However we are ready for all of it. Sailfish get real good in November and December with Dolphin coming through on the Southerly winds usually. Tunas show up when they feel like it and the kingfish are a great stand by for a monster pull on the rod. For those that like to have some fun on the reef catching tasty snappers and grouper we do it a few different ways on two different types of boats.
